Pretty Parchment

Thursday, November 20th, 2008

Pretty Parchment is a Wordpress theme designed with an earthy cotton-paper look–I can almost feel the paper cuts!

As usual this WordPress theme is released under the PGL. This includes the CSS, XHTML, and design–and you can do whatever you want with it!

So, feel free to spruce it up and personalize it with your own images, or burn in on a CD and bury it in the snow out of shear spite! I even made it super easy for the average teenage clown to remove my credit link in the footer! Go ahead, annex my glory!

But seriously, if you do something cool with it, let me know and post a link in the comments below.

Download the Pretty Parchment WordPress theme (as soon as WP approves it).

Crafty

Wednesday, November 19th, 2008

Crafty is WordPress theme designed for people who want an organic-crafted like feel of their website or blog–but basically its made for chicks. I hope you like it, whoever you are.

A special thanks goes out to Rachel Novek for some of the visual elements like the ribbons and other crafty things. Without her amazing-artsy background this theme would not have been possible.

So you know: everything in this theme, including the CSS, XHTML, and design, is released under GPL (this means that you can do whatever you want with it).

So please, take my credit out of the footer, add your own images, turn it into a robot and friend it on facebook–I don’t care. I mean, it’s not like I spent three hours bug-fixing the thing for IE6 until the veins in my forehead exploded!

But seriously, if you do something cool with it, let me know and post a link in the comments below.

Untheme two-column

Monday, November 17th, 2008

This theme was designed as a starting place for new blog designs.

In the past, before I start a new project, I would spent about 20 min cleaning Kubrick, the WordPress default template, of everything that I never use in blog design. After putting together over 30 different blogs/websites in this manner, this wasted time has really added up–which gave birth to the Untheme.

The Untheme series will have many different layouts to match the basic styles that currently exist in modern web design, but they will all be very general, and will include everything necessary for a stable WordPress blog design.

As I imagine is the case with the majority of WP themes out there, most of the PHP, XHTML, and CSS for this theme was found and adapted from the Kubrick 1.5 theme found at: http://binarybonsai.com/kubrick/

Everything (CSS, XHTML, and “design”) is released under GPL: http://www.opensource.org/licenses/gpl-license.php

This means that you can do anything you want with this theme–including printing its code on a t-shirt and lighting it on fire! (But please, send photos if you do this.)

WP Theme Disciple “About Blog” fix

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

Here is a really great theme from regis that you can download from the new WP Theme repository.

I really liked the simple clean design, but I was upset to find that the author hard-coded an “About my blog” mini-post with a picture (of the author) into the themes sidebar. I thought it would be much better if the author would have pulled some text from the default WP “About” page.

Using WP for a website, not a blog?  Look no further.  900px wide, no sidebar.  No kidding.
